About Tim Sullivan
.
Tim "Sully" Sullivan began his studies in music growing up on the Upper West Side -- of Wisconsin. After graduating from Eau Claire Memorial High School, he enrolled at the Chicago College of Performing Arts for Jazz Studies. In Chicago, Tim closely apprenticed saxophonist Mike Smith, who helped greatly in immersing Tim into the world of professional music and music education. From Chicago, Tim headed south to attend graduate school at the University of New Orleans, where he was a member of the school's flagship ensemble, the Louis Armstrong Quintet. Quickly becoming a sought after player and educator in the city, Tim can be seen playing and teaching in New Orleans' most revered music venues including Tipitina's, Snug Harbor, Maple Leaf, House of Blues, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. He has had the great fortune to play with New Orleans music staples including Ellis Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Irma Thomas, Johnny Vidacovich, George Porter Jr., Stanton Moore, Simon Lott, Alfred ‘Uganda’ Roberts, Bill Summers, Henry Butler, Treme Brass Band, Steve Masakowski, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Irvin Mayfield, David Torkanowsky, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band’s Kirk Joseph, Roger Lewis, and Terrence Higgins. As a versatile woodwind player and focusing primarily on the baritone saxophone, Tim has performed and/or recorded nationally with a wide array of artists including Aretha Franklin, Fred Wesley, Roy Hargrove, Umphrey's McGee, Eric Krasno, Chali 2na (Jurassic 5), Robert Walter, Dave Liebman Big Band, Toshiko Akyoshi Big Band, Cab Calloway Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Curtis Fuller, Clark Terry, Ron Miles, George Lewis, Papa Mali, Billy "The Buddha" Dickens, and many more. For nearly a decade, Tim has taken a progressive role in music education. In New Orleans, he currently works in the schools and community through his involvement with the Tipitina's Foundation and the International House of Blues Foundation. In addition, as a teacher for the WeBop! program and Academy Assistant for the Middle School Jazz Academy at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Tim has the incredible privilege to work with some of the coolest kids (and toddlers!) in New York City.
